How to Rank a Website

We know that there are many factors that influence a website’s ranking position on Google. We’ll talk about Google for now since they’re the top dog in the space.

Certain factors cause a website to rank higher better than others. For example, On-site SEO is probably the least influential when it comes to getting a site ranked. If anything, it’s the foundation of a home. It’s not the finished product.

Now, if you add a ton of high-quality links linking to your website, you might see some change in the serps. This is because certain strategies hold more weight in Google’s eyes.
Backlinks
The top of the list when it comes to search engine rankings is backlinks. This comes as no surprise because it even translates into the real-life business world.

People tend to buy from people they know or have been referred to. This is because referrals are the ultimate source of leads. The same is true for the web. The more backlinks a website has, the most authority Google will give it.

We could write books upon books on getting high quality backlinks and strategies of the sort. That saying that there’s more than one way to skin a cat is exponentially true in this case.

Just to briefly name a few, blog commenting, and guest posts are one of the most powerful types of backlinks. Other honorable mentions are any links from .gov and .edu sites. If you do no other backlinking whatsoever, make sure you adhere to these mentioned above.

Content

Content is…nope not going to do it. We’ve heard it thousands of times. Google likes bringing their searches the most informative and most relevant content that they can.

This is what makes Google, Google. They deliver time and time again and they won’t let your crappy website mess up what they’ve tried for so long to create. That is an algorithm that can rip apart a website and tell if it’s going to be useful to people.

This means we have to step our game up in 2018. No longer are the days when the internet was still fresh, and you could rank just by throwing up a so-so article. Nowadays, articles are jam-packed with information, photos, videos, and infographics.

That’s not to say you can’t have a great blog post packed with information, because that still works. But, it’s better to stand out than to blend in with the crowd.

On Page SEO

Last but maybe also least, on page SEO. You don’t want to gloss over on page SEO. You can consider content your conversation with your customer and on page SEO as a conversation with Google.

Content tells readers what your site is about and therefore they can make a purchase if they like your products/service. On the other hand, on page SEO won’t have a direct effect on your readers/customers. They might be able to tell right away what your website is about because of the title tag, but it’s more useful to Google than anything.

Google will crawl your website with its virtual spiders. They’ll check your on-page SEO in order to understand what your website is about so they’ll index it properly.
